The requirements:

• Winter theme (think holidays, snow, winter sports, etc.)
• 10 layers utilizing different brushes (you may NOT import or copy any images)
• And other Photoshop skills and concepts you have learned so far.
• An 11th layer which should be a text layer. This layer should include one of your favorite quotes.

Finalizing Your Top 5 Movie

When you are finished with your movie, click on publish and share and choose computer.

Top 5 Movie-Adding Transitions, Effects, Sounds and Music

Today we will learn how to add transitions between titles and pictures and how to add special effects to our titles and pictures.

When we complete these tasks, we will then download the music and sounds for our Top 5 Movie.

Assignment:

1-You are to save the 5 sounds you need in your Sounds Folder. The sounds should say each name of your Top 5 list.

2-You are to save a song you want to use in your Top 5 movie to the sounds folder.

Remember to follow copyright laws. This is just for your project. You cannot post to a web site the sounds and music you use for your project.

DO NOW: What is your Top 5....?

For our next project, we will utilized Adobe Premiere Elements 11.

"Adobe® Premiere® Elements 11 software helps you edit video using smart, automated options, enhance your movies with pro-quality effects, and then share on virtually any screen. Live in the moment knowing that you can easily turn your everyday videos into memorable home movies" (Adobe, 2012).

We will practice together by creating a short video highlighting your "Top 5 List". Today, first please identify what "Top 5 List" you would like you use. Make your list in a Word document. Save.

Some examples could be:

• Top 5 Places to Travel to
• Top 5 Things to do before graduating high school
• Top 5 Movies or TV Shows
• Top 5 Actors/Actresses
• Top 5 Artists
• Top 5 Authors
• Top 5 Candy bars
• Top 5 Animals
• Top 5 Teachers
• Top 5 Foods
• Top 5 Cafeteria foods
• etc.

TOP FIVE PROJECT

1-Find and save your Top Five Pictures in the pictures folder.  You will alter your pictures in Adobe Photoshop. 
You will be asked to save your pictures in folder number 11-Top 5 Intro Movie-->pictures folder

2-Setup your movie in Adobe Premiere Elements.

3-When setup is complete, you will be instructed to create 8 title slides for your movie. Each title will be 3 seconds in length. The following title slides will be created:

3-Your Name

5-Block _____
6-Music By
7-Name of group or singer

Top 5 Intro Movie Setup and Instructions

The next step after you save your Top 5 pictures is to setup your movie in Adobe Premiere Elements.

PHOTOSHOP CHALLENGE

Save a copy of the following photo of Riley in your 12-Photoshop Challenge folder:

In Photoshop, create a new file:

Last Name-Riley Football Card
8 x 10 inches (tall photo)

You are to add a football between his front paws
You are to add a helmet and a shirt
Add some typical information and design elements that you might find on the front of a Football Card

When you are finished, save for web as a jpeg high in the finished assignments folder called Riley Football card.

Look at the magazine cover below. What familiar Photoshop techniques do you notice? List at least four. Prepare to share what you notice with the class.

Magazine Cover Assignment:

Create a new file in Adobe Photoshop 8 x 10 inches.

Name your file: Yourlastname-Magazine Cover

You are to create a magazine cover of your own. Create a new magazine that you would like to purchase. Include a picture cut out from the background, article teasers, bar code, a background picture, color, gradient or texture.

You are to use as many Photoshop techniques as you can (shapes, filters, lighting effects, text styles)

Make sure you label all your layers

When you are finished, please save your cover in the finished assignments folder as a .jpg file.

Simplicity Rules

"A magazine cover is not the place where you want to pull out all the stops. Have you ever seen a popular magazine with a cover that is visually cluttered? In order to put together an effective cover, try to stick to between 5-11 cover headings. Too few headings won't create enough interest for readers, but too many headings will overwhelm a reader. How many headings does your favorite magazine have on its cover?

Keep the colors simple. If the cover model's clothing or cover image has a lot of different colors in it, you won't want to have a background that has a lot of color in it. This would overwhelm the eyes of your potential reader. Instead, try to stick to 3 or so colors for your background and title."

Advertisement Project

Search the Internet for an advertisement that you will want to redesign in Photoshop. The ad must be for a product that you could sell for a special "Black Friday" sale. (Note: You are not searching for a Black Friday Ad).

In order for you to be able to use the ad, you must be able to identify at least 4-6 Photoshop techniques that were used and that you will also use when you recreate you ad.

In a blank word document, write your name at the top followed by your Block number. Copy and paste the ad and list the Photoshop techniques you recognize. When finished please send to the printer where I will collect it.

Save the word document in your G drive and name it:

LastName-Ad

In Adobe Photoshop:

New file and name it your LastName-BlackFridayAd and save in the
9-Black Friday Ad folder.
Size 10 x 8 Inches

Be sure to use several Photoshop techniques in your design including:

Section 6- Feathering

Requirements for your PowerPoint slides:

2 original pictures with at least 30 px of feathering.

For more information on working with feathering: follow the tutorial by clicking HERE

Step 1:  Unlock your picture/background layer

Step 2:  Select part of your picture

Step 3:  Right-click with your mouse inside your selection and choose an amount to feather by.

Step 4:  Go to the Image Menu and choose Trim (See Below)

Step 5:  Save for Web as a PNG-24

Sometimes when you feather a picture you are left with extra blank space.  Before you save your
feathered picture as a PNG file, trim the excess by following the directions below.

This will be our final section in The Variety Project.

If you are caught up, please make sure to go back and "clean up" your PowerPoint slides.

 

PowerPoint slides should include:

• Consistent formatting
• "before and after" slides should be the same size and have the same style, if any applied
• Professional appearance
• Clearly labeled sections
• Clearly labeled effects
• No Transitions

Today in class we will learn how to recreate the artistic styling of Andy Warhol.

But who is Andy Warhol? For your DO NOW today please click the link HERE to learn more about Mr. Warhol.

In a blank Word Document complete the following:

1. What style of art is Warhol famous for?
2. List three interesting facts you learned about Warhol.
3. Go to Google and do an image search for Andy Warhol artwork. Pick an image of your choice and develop one paragraph explaining why you chose it.

Did you know Andy Warhol had the same lunch every day for twenty years--Campbell's Soup. Not only did he enjoy the soup for lunch, but it inspired his artistic talents as well. It became the muse for one of his most famous series of paintings, his 1962 collection of 32 canvases, each depicting a variety of Campbell's soups. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the famed works, Campbell's Soup has released limited edition cans featuring artwork derived from Warhol's "originals," distributed at Target stores nationwide. In your powerpoint, show your before and after pictures!

When you are done with the computer background and four sections of the project, please complete the Andy Warhol tutorial listed on my faculty page and bring it into your PowerPoint as section 7- Andy Warhol.

For extra credit, turn a picture of you into an Andy Warhol creation!

How do I draw a custom shape? 

 

To draw a custom shape:

• You can draw custom shapes by using shapes from the Custom Shape pop-up panel, or save a shape or path to use as a custom shape
  1.  Select the Custom Shape tool . It is by default, hidden behind the Rectangle Tool.
  2.  Select a shape from the Custom Shape pop-up panel in the options bar.
  3.  Your computer may NOT default to see all the available shapes. In your top tool bar, you can view all the shapes by clicking on the gear and then selecting "All" as shown
  4.  If you don’t find a shape you want in the panel, click the arrow in the upper right corner of the panel, and choose a different category of shapes. When asked to replace current shapes, click either Replace to view only the shapes in the new category or Append to add to the shapes already displayed.
  5.  Drag in your image to draw the shape.

Section 5-Clipping Mask

Before you can create a clipping mask, you must first draw a custom shape. Refer to the post "How do I create a custom shape?" if you need further instructions #howdoi

• From mini bridge, drag your image into your workspace
• Use the custom shape tool and drag the shape over your picture. Photoshop will automatically create a new layer for the shape.
• Rearrange the layers so that the picture is above the shape layer
• There are two ways you can make the clipping mask
  • You can put your mouse between the shape and picture layer
  • Hold down ALT on the keyboard
  • Your mouse will look like this:

• You can simply click and a clipping mask will automatically be created for you

OR

• On the picture layer, right click the mouse and select "create clipping mask"
•  Make sure to apply different strokes and gradients to your shapes.

Requirements:

4 different shapes with 4 different pictures

o 4 different strokes must be used

o 2 strokes must be gradients and 2 must be a solid color

Computer Background- Work in Progress

As we continue to build our Variety Projects, some of you may finish earlier than others on the individual sections.

If you have finished with your Variety Project assignment for the day, you may work on developing a background for your computer screen.

In Photoshop, go to File --> New.
Use the following:
Presets: Web
Size:  1680 x 1050 PIXELS 

Save as your last name-Computer Fall Background
in folder #8-Fall Background



The requirements:

• Fall theme (think Thanksgiving, fall landscape, fall sports, etc.)
• 10 layers including some of the following:
• Use of filters-At least 2 layers should have filters.
• Lighting effects
• Cutting out from a background
• Blending
• Opacity

An 11th layer which should be a text layer. This layer should include one of your favorite quotes.

SURPRISE QUIZ:  I WILL ASK YOU TO OPEN UP ANY PROJECT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP AND I WILL CHECK TO SEE IF YOU NAMED ALL YOUR LAYERS FOR A QUIZ GRADE!

This assignment is a "Work in Progress". You should work on it a little each day on days in which you have completed your Variety Project daily assignment.

Section 4-Smart Filters

Smart Filters allow you to do Non-destructive editing to your images. 

Requirements for your PowerPoint slides: 

1. Use two different original pictures which will show the "before and after" of the Smart Filters you apply.
2. Use a combination and blend at least two filters together for each original picture.
3. Label the filter combination you used in your PowerPoint slide.

How Do I Apply Smart Filters?

It’s easy to apply a Smart Filter in Adobe Photoshop CS6!

1.   Create a duplicate layer of the image you want to apply a Smart Filter to.
Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl + J

2.   Go to the Filter Menu

3.   Select "Convert for Smart Filters"

o    You will see the Smart Object icon appear on your layer in the layers panel.

4.   Now go back to the Filter Menu. You can select any combination of filters that you'd like.

o    Once applied, you rearrange, reorganize, turn on/off, and format/edit the filters you have already applied.

If you want to apply a mask to your Smart Filter:

1.   Select the Filter Effects Mask Thumbnail (white box in your layers panel).

2.   Use a selection tool to select the object you want to mask

3.   With the marching ants selecting your object, go to the Edit Menu, and select the Fill command.

4.   You want to fill your mask with the color black (often defaults as the Foreground color).

5.   You will see the object you selected now outlined in black in the Filter Effects Mask Thumbnail

6.   If your selection was not perfect, edit it:

o    You can use your brush tool and the color black/white to add/subtract from your mask. 

And you're done!

 

In the example above, you will see I applied a Smart Filter. I added the filters wind and motion blur. I also created a mask which you can see in my Filter Effects Mask Thumbnail and masked the giraffe so that it appears in its original form.
